Find missed Slack messages with Claude Duet (limits apply)

What this does

Anthropic’s launch article says Claude Duet can find Gmail and Slack messages you’ve missed and help you reply. The help center lists Slack as a connector you connect yourself, and says Slack works with limits in Claude Duet; Microsoft 365 isn’t available yet. Claude Duet is designed to wait for approval before sending a message. Unofficial community template; not affiliated with Anthropic or Slack.

Problem

Unread Slack piles up while you are in another thread. The useful part is the message that needed a reply. The failure mode is an agent that posts, reacts, or reaches past what Anthropic documented.

This case surfaces missed Slack threads and drafts replies. You approve before anything sends. It is not a silent post into a channel, and it is not full-workspace automation Anthropic did not write down.

What Anthropic documents

The launch article says Claude Duet can find the Gmail and Slack messages you’ve missed and help you reply. That sentence is the capability. Gmail steps stay on inbox triage. This page does not repeat them.

The help center names Slack among connectors you connect yourself, with Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Docusign, and Calendly. You start every connection. You can disconnect anytime. Disconnecting stops new access. Memory of earlier conversations is kept.

The same article’s limitations say some connectors, such as Slack, work with limits in Claude Duet. Anthropic has not published a public inventory of those limits on the pages cited here. This page does not invent one: no list of channels, DMs, or rate limits.

Microsoft 365 isn’t available yet. This case does not treat it as a Slack path.

Before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document, or deletes anything, the help center and the launch article say Claude Duet shows you what it is about to do and waits for approval. A Slack post is a message. The wait applies. It is a research preview and may misread a thread.

It checks connected accounts at set intervals, so something urgent can arrive between checks. It does not make phone calls or send text messages to other people.

The product page describes a proactive agent and the same approval design. It is not a Slack limit list.

What Slack said publicly

Slack’s official account congratulated Claude Duet and invited people to connect Slack so agents can help with unread messages and focus time. That post is Slack marketing, not Anthropic help: Slack on X.

The Claude account’s research-preview announcement is launch context, not a list of Slack limits: Claude on X. A check of public posts on 2026-10-24 did not find an Anthropic post that enumerates Slack’s Duet-specific limits beyond the help-center line that Slack works with limits.

Limits

Slack works with limits. Anthropic does not publish a public inventory of those limits on the pages cited here. Do not read “with limits” as full workspace access, and do not fill the gap with a guessed list of channels or DMs.

Microsoft 365 isn’t available yet.

Claude Duet is a research preview. It checks accounts at intervals. It may misread a thread. It does not make phone calls or send text messages to other people. It is designed to wait for approval before sending a message. This page does not claim it posts without asking.

Email stays on inbox triage. A morning brief is the cross-app list, not a Slack send. Putting a meeting on the calendar is Schedule a meeting. Shared limits are on About. Approvals, credentials, and actions that stay off-limits are mapped on Claude Duet safety, privacy, and credentials.

The prompt is a community template, not an official Anthropic prompt. This page is not affiliated with Slack.

Steps

  1. 1Connect Slack yourself in Claude settings. You start every connection, and you can disconnect it later.
  2. 2Ask for a triage of missed or urgent threads first. Nothing sends on that step.
  3. 3Paste the community prompt. Request draft replies only. A draft is not a post.
  4. 4Approve each send you intend. Disconnect anytime if you need to stop new access.
Using my connected Slack only, list the messages or threads I most likely missed in the last [N] hours that need a reply. For each, give: channel/DM label (as you see it), why it matters, and a draft reply. Do not send, react, or post anything until I approve that specific message. If a Slack action hits a Claude Duet limitation you cannot complete, say so plainly instead of guessing.

When to use

  • Slack is already how your team works, and you will still approve outbound messages.
  • You want missed threads surfaced and draft replies, not a silent post into a channel.
  • You can accept that Slack works with limits, and that Anthropic has not published a public inventory of those limits.
