Claude Duet vs Claude

Claude Duet is a separate research-preview app. Anthropic’s help center limits it to a US waitlist for Pro and Max, and says Team and Enterprise are not included yet. Claude chat, and the unified chat-and-Cowork experience in Anthropic’s Enterprise article, are different products. Duet does not replace them. This page is not a hands-on test.

Claude Duet compared with Claude chat and Cowork
DimensionClaude DuetClaude chat and CoworkSource
Who startsThe launch article says Claude Duet comes to you first. Each morning it sends a short brief across connected apps, and it messages you when something needs you. You can say what to hear about and how often. The help center adds follow-ups on threads that have gone quiet. You open the conversation. Anthropic’s Enterprise article says a simple question still gets a quick answer, and that members no longer choose between chat and Cowork before they start. That sentence is about the unified Claude experience, not about Duet.
Where the work runsThe help center says Duet works on its own computer in the cloud and uses its own browser for sites without a connector. The launch article says a virtual machine with its own browser, so a laptop or phone does not have to stay on. During the preview you cannot watch that browser or take it over.Chat is the conversation. The Enterprise article says that when a task needs to run code or work with files, Claude continues in a cloud environment Anthropic manages. That cloud session belongs to the unified Claude experience. It is not Duet’s computer.
ConnectorsThe help center says Duet uses apps you already connected in Claude, such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Docusign, and Calendly. Link and Shop Pay are connected inside Claude Duet, not from the connectors directory. Slack works with limits. Microsoft 365 is not available yet.Claude has its own connectors. The Google Workspace article covers Gmail, Calendar, and Drive on Claude and Claude Desktop, including a live editing pane beside the chat. That pane is not described in the Duet get-started article, and this page does not treat it as a Duet screen.
PlansResearch preview on a waitlist for Pro and Max subscribers in the US. Not on Team or Enterprise yet. Included with Pro and Max at no extra cost during the preview, and it shares that plan’s usage limits. Background work counts. One full limit reset, covering the five-hour and weekly limits, is available until 2026-11-30. Dollar prices: see the official page.Which Claude product you get depends on the plan. The Workspace article says those connectors are available on Claude and Claude Desktop, and that Team and Enterprise owners enable them for the organization. The Enterprise article says chat and Cowork first came together for Pro and Max in September, and that the same unified experience is now generally available for Claude Enterprise. Dollar prices: see the official page.
ApprovalThe help center says Duet is designed to ask before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document, or deletes anything. The Oct 23 safety article says it shows the action, the destination, and the content, including every recipient, then waits. Some actions stay off-limits even with approval, including trading securities and moving money between accounts.Approval depends on the product. The Workspace article says Claude asks before Gmail send, reply, or forward, and before Drive share, move, or trash, by default. On Team and Enterprise, owners can allow some of those actions without asking each time. That rule is about Claude connectors. It is not a Duet setting, and Duet is not on those plans yet.
Model and limitsYou cannot choose a model. Duet runs on Claude Opus 5.5. It does not make phone calls or send text messages to other people. With your approval it can send email from connected accounts. It cannot see every project or the files on your computer. It can read your work in Claude and cannot change it.The “you cannot choose a model” line is in the Duet help center. This page does not copy it onto Claude chat or Cowork, and it does not copy Enterprise model controls, Efficient mode, or admin spend limits onto Duet.

Choose Claude Duet if

  • You have, or are joining the waitlist for, Claude Pro or Max in the US. The help center says Team and Enterprise are not included yet.
  • You want the morning brief and the follow-ups the help center describes, from an agent that comes to you.
  • You want the documented step that asks before a message is sent, a payment is made, a document is signed, or anything is deleted.

Choose Claude chat or Cowork if

  • You want the main Claude conversation, including a quick question, rather than Duet’s separate app. The launch article says Duet lives in its own app for now.
  • Your organization is on Claude Enterprise and is rolling out the unified chat-and-Cowork experience in Anthropic’s Enterprise article. That article is not about Claude Duet.
  • You need Team or Enterprise today, a model you can choose, a browser you can watch, or Microsoft 365. The Duet help center says those are outside this preview.

FAQ

Does Claude Duet replace Claude chat?

No. The launch article says that for now Claude Duet lives in its own app, separate from the main Claude app. The help center says it is a research preview for Pro and Max in the US, and that Team and Enterprise are not included yet.

Is Claude Cowork the same product as Claude Duet?

No. Anthropic’s article “Claude Cowork and chat come together for Enterprise” describes chat and Cowork as one Claude experience, first for Pro and Max in September and now generally available for Claude Enterprise. Claude Duet’s help center still says Duet is not on Team or Enterprise. This page does not move Cowork features into Duet.

Can I pick the model, watch the browser, or text someone from Duet?

Not in this preview. The help center says you cannot choose a model (it runs on Claude Opus 5.5), you cannot watch or take over the browser, and Duet does not make phone calls or send text messages to other people. Approved email from a connected account is the send path it does describe.

What is the page at /duet-vs-dot?

That page compares Claude Duet with OpenAI dots, the always-on agents in ChatGPT. It is not a page about New Computer’s Dot.
