Clear the inbox and draft replies

What this does
Claude Duet can look through connected Gmail and Slack for messages you missed, draft replies, and is designed to wait before anything is sent. The help center’s own example is to clear out mail you do not need to read.
Problem
A full inbox is not a to-do list. The useful part is small, and the rest still takes time to dismiss.
The launch article says Claude Duet can catch Gmail and Slack messages you missed and draft replies. The help center gives a concrete request you can make: “Clear out anything in my inbox that I don't need to read.” It also says the Slack connector has limits, without listing a menu of channel types on the pages this case cites. This template does not invent those limits. It asks Claude Duet to say what it could not see.
Sending stays behind approval. The help center says Claude Duet is designed to wait before it sends a message, and that it can still misread a thread.
Getting a meeting onto the calendar is Schedule a meeting, not an inbox draft.
Steps
- 1Connect Gmail yourself in Claude settings. Connect Slack only if you want that channel included. The help center says the Slack connector has limits.
- 2Paste the prompt. Add names, labels, or channels that should always reach you, and ones that can wait.
- 3Read the summary. Claude Duet can misread a thread, so treat “nothing to read” as a suggestion, not a fact.
- 4Open each draft. Sending a message is an action Claude Duet is designed to hold until you approve it.
- 5Use the Tasks tab for anything still open. Only you can mark a task complete.
Look through my connected Gmail and Slack for messages I missed or do not need to read. Summarize what actually needs me, and leave the rest. Where a reply would help, draft it in my voice and wait for my approval before sending anything. Do not post or send on your own. If Slack access is limited, say what you could not see.
When to use
- A morning brief is not enough and you want the inbox itself thinned out.
- You will still read every draft before it is sent.
- You can accept that Slack may not show everything the connector is limited from reading.
FAQ
What does Anthropic actually say Claude Duet does in the inbox?
The launch article says it can catch missed Gmail and Slack messages and draft replies. The help center gives this example request: “Clear out anything in my inbox that I don't need to read.”
Will it send the reply?
It is designed to show you the message and wait. Approving a draft is still your decision, and a wrong draft is still possible.
Does Slack work the same as Gmail?
No. Anthropic says the Slack connector has limits. This template tells Claude Duet to say what it could not see, rather than guessing the missing messages.
Claude Duet is a research preview. It can misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent. Review every draft and approval before you confirm it.
