Claude Duet waitlist, usage, and the one limit reset

What this does
Claude Duet is still a research preview on a waitlist for Pro and Max plans in the US. Joining does not set a date. When you are admitted, the help center says you get one full limit reset, for both the five-hour session and the weekly limits, available until 30 November 2026. Background checks use the same plan limits. Unofficial summary; not affiliated with Anthropic.
What this page is
Claude Duet is still a research preview on a waitlist for Pro and Max plans in the US. Admission includes one full limit reset, and that reset has a last day.
This page restates Anthropic’s help center, the launch article, and the limit-reset article. It is not a hands-on test. It does not publish a wave calendar.
Last checked 2026-10-27.
Who can get in
Get started with Claude Duet says Claude Duet is available as a research preview to users on the Pro and Max plans in the US, through a waitlist. It uses your Claude account settings and your Pro or Max usage limits. It is not available on Team or Enterprise plans yet. Access opens in waves, and features can change during the research preview.
To use it, that article says you need:
- A Pro or Max plan
- A Claude account in the US
- An invitation from the waitlist
The launch article says a research preview is available by waitlist, starting with US Pro and Max subscribers, and that during the preview Claude Duet is included in Pro and Max plans. The product page is where the help center sends you to join. On 2026-10-21 the Claude account posted the same frame: an early research preview, through a waitlist, on Pro and Max plans in the US (@claudeai, and the announcement).
Why you might not have it yet
The help center lists four reasons:
- Invitations go out in waves, so joining the waitlist does not guarantee a specific date.
- Claude Duet is available in the US only during the research preview.
- Claude Duet is not available on Team or Enterprise plans yet.
- The email address you used on the waitlist does not match your Claude account, or the Google or Apple account on your phone. Access is tied to the email address you gave.
This page does not add a fifth reason, and it does not invent the dates of later waves.
How to join, and where the app lives
The help center’s steps:
- Go to the Claude Duet product page and select “Join the waitlist.”
- Enter your name and email address. If you already use Claude, enter the email address on your Claude account.
- Choose your Claude plan and your phone type (iPhone or Android). You can also say what you do and what you would hand off first.
- Select “Submit.” People are added gradually, and you get an email when it is your turn.
- When it is your turn, open the invitation email on your phone and follow the setup steps for iPhone or Android. Use the Apple or Google account linked to the email address you gave, because access is tied to that address.
- Open Claude Duet and sign in with your Claude account. It can take a few minutes for the app to become available after you accept the invitation.
The launch article says that for now Claude Duet lives in its own app, separate from the main Claude app, on iOS, Android, and claude.ai. The help center says you cannot choose a model: Claude Duet runs on Claude Opus 5.5. How that app, its channels, and its task list are described is Claude Duet as a personal always-on agent.
Usage, including background checks
The help center says that during the research preview, Claude Duet is included with the Pro and Max plans at no extra cost. It uses your plan’s usage limits, including the five-hour session and weekly limits, at the same rate as chats in Claude. Work it does in the background, such as the morning brief and check-ins, also counts, so you may reach your limits sooner than with chat alone. It checks your accounts at set intervals to keep that background work from using up your limits.
The launch article says Claude Duet checks connected accounts every few hours, because checking nonstop would use up your plan’s limits much faster. The same article says background checks count toward those limits, and larger tasks use more of them.
How do usage and length limits work? says paid plans have a session limit that resets every five hours, and weekly limits that reset once a week. Usage on claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Desktop counts toward the same usage limit. The morning list that spends some of that budget is Start the day with a morning brief.
The one reset that comes with admission
The help center says that when you are admitted to the Claude Duet research preview, you get one full limit reset, which resets both your five-hour session and your weekly limits. This limit reset is available until 30 November 2026.
What is a limit reset? is the general article. It says limit resets are given occasionally to eligible plans. Depending on the reset shown, either the five-hour session limit or the weekly usage limit goes back to full right away. The Duet line above is the specific one: admission includes one full reset of both. This page does not treat every occasional reset as that Duet reset, and it does not promise a second promotional reset.
That general article also says:
- You do not have to wait until you reach a limit to use a reset.
- Once you use it, you cannot undo it.
- If a reset has an expiry, the expiry is shown in Settings > Usage. An unused reset expires on the day and time listed on the offer.
- A reset does not refund extra usage you have already been billed for, and it does not change your usage credit balance.
- If you downgrade or cancel before using the reset, it is no longer available.
- Your weekly limits still reset on their usual day and time.
To use a reset, that article says: go to Settings > Usage on the web or in Claude Desktop, click “Reset for free,” and confirm. The same button appears on the message you see when you reach a limit. It says the button is not currently available on Claude Mobile or in Claude Code in your terminal or IDE, so open Claude in a browser or use Claude Desktop. Usage limits are shared across the Claude account, so after a reset they are back to full on Claude Mobile and in Claude Code too.
What a community post is, and what it is not
On 2026-10-27, @ashen_one wrote that they had early access, that it came with a banked reset, and that they hope the separate app is folded into the main one when it is widely available. That post is one person’s note. “Banked reset” is their wording. The help center’s wording is one full limit reset, available until 30 November 2026. The post is not a rule, and it is not a statement that the preview is open to everyone.
Limits that stay in force
The help center says Claude Duet can misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent, and that you should review drafts and approval requests before you confirm them. The 2026-10-21 Claude post says the same about urgency. You cannot watch Claude Duet work in its browser or take the browser over. It does not make phone calls or send text messages to other people. Some actions stay off limits even with approval, including trading securities, moving money between accounts, and accessing someone else’s account. How approvals and credentials are described is Claude Duet safety, privacy, and credentials.
Connectors you start yourself are listed on Connectors. How Claude Duet sits next to Claude is Claude Duet vs Claude.

Access, in the help center’s words
- 1A Pro or Max plan, a Claude account in the US, and an invitation from the waitlist.
- 2Waves do not promise a date. The preview is US-only. Team and Enterprise are not included yet. The waitlist email has to match the Claude account, and the Google or Apple account on the phone.
- 3Join from the product page. When invited, install the standalone app and sign in with that Claude account. The launch article says the app is separate from the main Claude app.
- 4One full limit reset on admission, resetting both the five-hour session and the weekly limits, available until 30 November 2026. Use it from Settings > Usage on the web or in Claude Desktop.
Tell me whether this Claude account can use Claude Duet, and why it might not: plan, country, Team or Enterprise, and whether the waitlist email matches this account. If I am in the research preview, explain the one full limit reset, the date it is available until, and that background checks count toward the same five-hour and weekly limits. Cite only Anthropic’s documented behavior. Do not say the preview is open to everyone.
When to read this
- You are deciding whether this account can join, or why an invitation has not arrived.
- You want the documented rule for the one reset that comes with admission, and the date it is available until.
- You want background checks and the morning brief counted against the same five-hour and weekly limits.
FAQ
Is Claude Duet open to everyone?
No. The help center says the research preview is for Pro and Max plans in the US, through a waitlist, and that access opens in waves. The launch article says the same: a waitlist, starting with US Pro and Max subscribers. Team and Enterprise are not included yet.
Why might I still be waiting?
The help center lists four reasons: invitations go out in waves and do not guarantee a date; the preview is US-only; Team and Enterprise are not included yet; or the waitlist email does not match your Claude account, or the Google or Apple account on your phone.
What reset do I get if I am admitted?
The help center says admission includes one full limit reset, which resets both your five-hour session and your weekly limits. That reset is available until 30 November 2026. A separate article describes limit resets in general, including ones that restore either the session limit or the weekly limit.
Where is the Reset for free button?
The limit-reset article says Settings > Usage on the web or in Claude Desktop, then Reset for free, then confirm. The same button can appear on the message you see when you reach a limit. It says the button is not currently on Claude Mobile or in Claude Code in a terminal or IDE.
Claude Duet is a research preview. It can misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent. Review every draft and approval before you confirm it.
